WHAT WE DO
PREVIOUS INITIATIVES
Our early initiatives laid the groundwork for sustainable, community-led change - proving that with the right support, even the most overlooked areas can transform. Sometimes, real change doesn’t come from pouring in money - it comes from listening first, understanding deeply, and working alongside communities to find thoughtful, practical solutions that truly last. These first couple of initiatives shaped our model and continue to inspire everything we do today.
CHIBOLYA HOSPITAL
THE CHALLENGE
Chibolya, a slum of 35,000 people, overrun with poverty and gang violence.
Nearest hospital was an 11km walk away; maternal mortality stood at 30%.
HIV was common; children lacked basic vaccinations.
THE CHANGE
Built Chiyembekezo Clinic, the community’s first medical facility.
Funded ultrasound equipment via a lease model for sustainable income.
Offered affordable care and family planning education.
THE IMPACT
Now a self-sustaining, registered hospital with revenue.
Maternal deaths after ultrasound use dropped to 0%.
All children under 5 now immunised; HIV transmission eliminated.
CHIBOLYA WATER PIPELINE
THE CHALLENGE
No running water near the hospital; access required piping through a high-risk area.
Frequent theft and damage of materials would have been a huge problem.
Locals relied on unsafe or distant water sources for daily needs.
THE CHANGE
A pipeline was laid with a local ownership model to protect it.
Households were given private taps in exchange for safeguarding their section of the pipe.
Residents gained direct access to clean flowing water, almost all for the first time.
THE IMPACT
The hospital now has reliable and clean water for hygiene and patient care.
Dozens of homes gained fresh water access and new income streams from selling the water.
The pipeline remains secure, showing the power of trust-based community solutions.
