ORPHAN EDUCATION & CARE PROGRAM
THE CHALLENGE
In Chibolya, many children have lost one or both parents to poverty, illness, or violence. With no one to care for them, they often end up on the streets - vulnerable to crime, exploitation, and a future without education or opportunity. Even those with surviving relatives are often caught in cycles of instability, living in overcrowded homes where basic needs can’t be met and school is out of reach.
Without intervention, these children grow up without the tools to change their circumstance - and the cycle of poverty, hardship, and lost potential continues into the next generation.
THE CHANGE
Rather than placing children in institutionalised orphanages, we take a different approach with the help of Action for Empowerment (AFE) - a community-run centre founded by Jacob. AFE places vulnerable children in safe homes with trusted guardians and covers their education costs all the way through to university graduation. The children also visit the AFE centre once a day for a nutritious meal, tutoring, emotional support, and a sense of belonging.
We also empower their host families, especially the women, by providing sewing machines, tailoring courses, or practical training that helps generate income and stabilise the home.
THE IMPACT
Children in the program aren’t just surviving - they’re thriving. All are either in the process of or have already graduated from high school or university, helping break the cycle of poverty through education and opportunity.
The ripple effect is profound: empowered children are more likely to form stable families, raise educated children, and contribute positively to the communities.
Due to limited resources, AFE cannot reach every child on the wait list - but with your help, we can reach more.
